(Pott. County Commission Meeting, June 5, 2017) | The Manhattan Mercury

Steve Minton, Westmoreland, asked commissioners to go on record as to how they felt about demolishing the county courthouse as part of a 20-year facilities plan. Both commissioners listed their status as “maybe,” pending further research and the financial feasibility of refurbishing the courthouse versus building a new structure. “You hate to see it go, but you don’t see any dinosaurs running around the earth any more,” Weixelman said. “To me, I don’t think we want to just sit here and let it deteriorate,” Minton said. A recent long range Facility Master Plan recommended razing the 1884 courthouse and replacing it with a new facility to consolidate county departments currently housed in three different locations. The commission has made no decision regarding the recommendation, but has scheduled further discussion of the issue for its June 19 meeting.
